[ 28 years of Voluntery Service From 1979 - 2007 ]
Every year approximately 50 homeopathic doctors from Malaysia give up their annual holiday. They make their medical knowledge and skills availabe to the charity. " Homeopathic Doctors Without Barriers" free of charge for a period of at least four days to eight weeks. On top of this, they even pay for their flight to help the country to which they are sent.
In1979 Dr Nik Omar, the President of the Registered Malaysian Homeopathic Medical Practitioners Association of short 'MRHP' establised the organisation in Kota Bharu with the aim of providing medical help in countries with low levels of medical provision. Since then they have been able to arrange almost 50 assigments for Malaysian homeopathic doctors. The work in six projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.
" Off course, we asked ourself whether such a short stays really made any sense, " admits Dr Nik Omar. However he and the other doctors involved came to the conclusion that a physician can provide a lot of help even in a short time.
" I dont need to know the country's culture to be able to carry out mu duties," says Dr Mohammad Ali Hamzah, who is the secretary General of the Association. The 42 year old homeopathic specialist for internal medicine has served in three international assigment at Pakistan, Afghanistan and Thailand.
"Our principle is to place medicine above all. Those poor people needs our help. We cannot just leave the suffering of the population to the government alone. We should come forward to help them. That why I join this group," says Dr Mohammad Ali, who survived from MIG bombing at Al-Fatah Camp near Jalalabad inside Afghanistan in 1987.
The help provided by "Doctors Without Barriers" is financed exclusively by donation and support of members from our own association. Sometime we do received few donation from public. 100% of the money donated goes directly into the project," says Dr Mohd Nasir who is the Secretary General of Malaysian Homeopathy Medical Practitiners Association, No.11, Bangunan Tabung haji Lama, Jalan Dato Pati, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia, where he runs a small office, 450 km from Kuala Lumpur.
